| Teresa Hubbard \ Alexander Birchler \ House with Pool 29. April – 27. May 2006 We are very pleased to present the latest video installations by Teresa Hubbard / Alexander Birchler. At the gallery we will show House with Pool and for the opening weekend we will present Night Shift at the project space (Dircksenstr. 41/ 2nd court yard). The Irish artist Teresa Hubbard (*1965) and the Swiss artist Alexander Birchler (*1962) have been working together since 1990, establishing a pictorial language which combines sculptural construction with filmic fiction. Their productions reveal a strong sense of carefully constructed mise-en-scène that owes as much to natural history-museum dioramas as to cinematic directorial techniques. These works seem to be spliced from a larger narrative, but the artists are unwilling to lead the viewer toward any specific apprehension of what that story might be. Galerie Barbara Thumm will show House with Pool, a single channel video installation, where the everyday lives of three different characters, a gardener, a teenage runaway and an affluent woman, become intertwined. The fourth character in the work is the house and surrounding grounds itself, where the action takes place. At the project space we will show Night Shift, a video work in four parts: four scenes taking place in a police car at night, a poetic meditation on the idea of memory and dreaming. (‘Night Shift’ was supported and produced for «art:21« (art in the 21st century) of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), Alexandria/Virginia, USA.) Parallel to the presentation at the gallery, Teresa Hubbard / Alexander Birchler’s videoinstallation Eight will be on display at the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin from 25. - 30. April. The screening is part of the exhibition ‘Melancholie’ at the Black Box at the foyer. You are welcome to see Eight without entrance ticket (or waiting line). |
